International Baccalaureate (IB) at Barry Goldwater High School

  • THE IB MISSION

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help create a better more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.  To this end, the IB works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment.  These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

The BGHS IB Program has flexibility!  Students in the 11th and 12th grade may participate in the BGHS IB Diploma Program choosing from any of the content courses.  Students can be either Full Diploma Candidates (testing in all 6 content areas, completing TOK course, CAS project and the Extended Essay) or students can be Certificate Candidates and choose to just complete requirements in one or more specific content areas.  Students who are most interested in a specific CTE or Career-Related Course of Study are encouraged to complete the IB Career-Related Programme.

Through advisement, students complete a 4-year Plan to determine which option is the right fit and have flexibility to make changes along the way.  Find your fit today! Contact our IB Academic Counselor, Mrs. Courtenay Douglas-Salisbury.
